Presidential candidate Ralph Nader (subscribe to the Nader channel http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=votenader08 ) has a good video about the wall street bailout, I’ll play you a short clip and also a clip of Chomsky talking about capitalism in the real world .
Nader is right, the bailout is yet another example of socialism for the rich which has been the game that’s always been played.
I recommend this CD of Noam Chomsky talking at Harvard in 96.
Chomsky explains that the free market theory sold to the public is just a fantasy. He shows how in the real world, different rules apply to the rich. the rich make sure they have the nanny state to take care of themselves. We are being played for fools. Let’s get the word out. The Damour massacre was a response to the Karantina massacre, which killed over 1500 people.
According to wikipedia, 20 Phalangist militiamen were executed. Just under 600 civilians were also murdered. (I double-checked another source and got the number 582 dead.)
Where did you get this number 40,000? That’s less than the population of Damour, at about 5 thousand people (in 2006).

I believe he was in the “lessor of two evils” camp on that one, given the choices. A lot of people were. I don’t think this means we can conclude that he is “a poor example of anything progressive”.
Besides, Chomsky is just as critical of the Democrats as he is the Republicans. He was very outspoken against many of Clinton’s policies during his administration.

He blames Palestinians. I blame the American and Palestinian governments for forcing the Palestinian youths into seeking out healthcare and education from a group of religous zealots that take better care of their own than the country in which they are citizens. The young recruits of Palestine have no other option for survival other to rely on terrorists to take them in and provide social benefits.

In a less corrupt country with a better service sector, yes, government controlled health care will give you health care at a still more expensive than competitive market, but at a decent price. The ideal health …
The ideal health care system would be one that is so affordable that everyone can get health care, not where some guy eats hamburgers all day, gets a heart attack, so they steal it from you.. And the free market system does work.. the best example we have today would be singapore, where 3/4 of the health care privatized and as close to free market as we have in the world today. Albeit still lacking… but the cost is 4-5% of gdp.

It’s not that free market people don’t want everyone to have health care. It’s that we want the prices competitive. Giving everyone health care and then taking all the money in forms of loans and taxes doesn’t reduce the cost.. it simply continues to hide it.. Much like the 60’s politician’s did when they introduced the current managed care plan. Keep in mind America had the cheapest most successful plan ever not even 60-70 years ago. We were the best example of affordable health care.

Socialism for the rich. Government always bails out the rich and their corporations. Socialism (not communism) should be for the poor, socialism is democratic, because it is the masses fighting the rich, voting (democratically) for the markets to be for the mom and pop businesses and NOT for the giant corporations. As far as the GM bailout, it wasn’t really the rich getting bailed as much as it was the Union. The entity that has been dragging down GM is now able to remain and continue to drain them. GM is now paying retirees for longer than they actually worked there. Try to make a profit doing that!
