Toyota Recall – Evidence the gas pedal isn’t the cause
With billions in market share at stake Carquestions continues to test the gas pedal under some extreme conditions in order to prove or disprove the “condensation” and “swollen plastic” explanation that is on file with NHTSA. The results lead to the narrowing of likely possibilities down to just two leaving Toyota in a catch 22 situation. Carquestions makes an appeal to all techs to find evidence of a defective part or a defective system.

You have it exactly …
You have it exactly backwards – The Saylor Lexus crash that did kill 4 did NOT HAVE THE CTS PEDAL – and the final conclusion -( I have the report) – states it was the floor mat jamming the pedal – no question these are the facts.

@carquestions
How …
@carquestions
How come the only cars that were victimized by the unintended acceleration issue were those that had the CTS pedal? None of the cars with the Denso pedal was reported? I hate to argue with you on this, but I do think you’re wrong on the issue.

Please do NOT link …
Please do NOT link deaths with this pedal. Jim Lentz has PUBLICALLY stated that there are no known real world examples of the CTS pedal failing – NHTSA has no data – THIS PEDAL IS NOT DEFECTIVE AND NEVER WAS – AS STATED BY CARQUESTIONS ON JAN 30/10

@carquestions
Keep …
@carquestions
Keep in mind that millions of CTS pedals were manufactured within the past 10 years. Yet, only 34 people died as a result. I know 34 is a considerable number of deaths, but it pales in comparison to the 45,000 people that die in car accidents each year in the US alone and almost half a million deaths on our roads in the past 10 years. What I’m trying to say is, the defect does not materialize in all CTS pedals. After the recall, there hasn’t been any report of unintended accel.

If your interested in the final report on the Audi 5000 – Google – Sussman and Pollard – “sudden acceleration” 1989 – It is very interesting reading.

Would you recognize …
Would you recognize a CTS pedal if you saw one?
Your looking at one. Which part number do you want? There are 3 sets of them lazer etched on the left side just above the hinge cover plate – Its as if I were showing you a Ford Pinto and you didn’t recognize one

@janji3202 I guess …
@janji3202 I guess a car being such a complex machine, in a tough competitive environment and lives a stake also not to mention every possibility or legal action. sometimes the truth comes out too late.
P.S Be cafreful there is a Chrysler SUA problem too… Jeep cherokee is notorious for it

Thanks , that does …
Thanks , that does look like a tough pedal to me, given that you dont have a lab , this was a pretty good demo. I believe the prob is in the electronics too. ofcourse they wont say it coz they have messed up. But i also believe that they will recover to the company that we once knew.
What happened to Audi was actually customer error that was found out to be the case later. They got hammered by faulty reporting on CBS 60 minutes.

Could you please …
Could you please specify what Toyota gas pedal that is? Who supplied it to Toyota (i.e., what’s the manufacturer name)? When was it manufactured? What’s the part number? Simply by conducting experiments on a Toyota pedal doesn’t imply it’s the model that presented defects. There are several types of pedals supplied to Toyota for applications in different vehicle lines and year models. It’s as if I told you the Ford Pinto wasn’t prone to exploding because the Taurus hasn’t exploded in testing.

Yes it is – 08 …
Yes it is – 08 Sequoia – so wrong on point 1.
Point 2. it is most definitely ridiculous to suggest 8 to 10 years of use. Why? except for a few 05 and 06 Avalons all the cars and trucks listed by Toyota are 07 to 10 – would you like the official list – I have it – apparently you don’t. You have made up the number of 8 to 10 years – if I’m wrong about that post your source information and prove me wrong please
February 25th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
My first question …
My first question is: Is the pedal you are using an actual recalled pedal? It appears to be out of an SE model which may not have been part of the recalls. If you know the “reason” for the recalls you would understand that it is a preventative measure against sticking after years (8-10) down the road.
You can’t reproduce years of wear and tear through a trip into a bucket of water and a trip into an oven. I can’t believe anyone would buy this analysis. Purely off-base. Good try though.

Chasing a ghost – …
Chasing a ghost – there is no doubt in my mind that is what I’m doing. The problem is public safety is being put at risk. People think a car causes SUA – in fact its just them. I don’t care who nice they are or how good a driver they’ve been – its still them. I don’t want drivers of Fords, Chev etc to think they’re safe because they don’t drive a Toyota – Today some where in a major US city a woman over 50 will drive into or through something and claim the car’s brakes failed and it accelerated.

Every time – its in a working vehicle used every day at this moment. Not the slightest problem so far

buddy you are …
buddy you are trying to find a witch in the world of today… only reason that Toyota is in this trouble is cause it was kicking GMC and all of the americans auto sales in the states and all around the world and now with this GMC and the American auto makers hope they can make a dent on one of the most reliable auto maker out there. if you think its not true then why does congress want to eagerly speak with mr Katsuaki Watanabe

Have you put it in the car and tested it after each condition?

I Just posted this on Toyotausa comment 571
You’ve got to be kidding Jim – you recalled 2.3 million cars for a faulty gas pedals without having one real world example? We new this 2 weeks ago. Your next move? I’d guess you will let the press/government figure out its always been SUA and Toyota can say “If you say so, we didn’t” – You know what happened to Audi don’t you? – never blame the customer.

Don’t worry about it – as techs – we beat each other up all the time – for me its seems to be my standard way of learning.

ok well maybe i misunderstood you… i’ll have to reply after i get off work at 8pm this evening from performing all these recalls for 12 hours today…… i’ll reply later… sorry for the name calling… when i originally said those words i think i was actually talking about someone elses post to your vidio and no i would not take the bet because I would also bet it is mostly drier error …hey but thats just my opinion……

Gilbert got a big …
Gilbert got a big Zero when asked if he ever investigated a real life example of what he was talking about – he’s never seen it. Well I’ve investigated real world SUA and its a people problem not a car problem. 1.3 billion cars have been made since we started, there are no recorded valid cases of car accelerating and brakes failing in any country and he won’t find one in the US either – I’ve got $1000 on it where’s your money?

The answer to your question is still you. Dave Gilbert was one of my instructors at SIU… keep watching…….

When small 4 cyl …
When small 4 cyl cars are on cruise there response to climbing a slight hill is exaggerated since they lack power they downshift and rev very loudly – this makes people think the car has gone nuts given the news stories when in fact it is just trying to maintain a set speed.

Who’s the jack …
Who’s the jack now? Lentz said today “If they have a problem” when stating they really don’t have any real world examples – what? no real examples and you recalled 2.3 million cars?

could it be the cruise control. i had a ford escort that would accelerate randomly while set to 60mph on cruise

I said pedal “issue …
I said pedal “issue” – meaning Toyota created the complaints by telling people the pedal was defective. My investigation shows the pedal has no defects and therefore must be due to “driver error” – if Toyota had said there is nothing wrong with the car things would have turned out much differently don’t you think? People against Toyota would have to show the public a defective pedal at some point which would be impossible since the pedal isn’t defective – after a while the story would go away.
