Market Report – Asian Techs Firm

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

In todays market report Asian technology shares were up, cheered by Wall Street and strong earnings from U.S. peers.

Regional benchmarks mostly were flat to lower, but chip-related shares like Tokyo Electron gained after a bullish outlook from flash memory maker SanDisk.

Korean chipmakers like Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor rose, while in Taiwan PC-makers gained on Dell’s record quarterly net profit.

On the downside, Japanese automakers dipped on the stronger yen, despite news that General Motors would recall 1.3 million vehicles to fix a power steering problem

GM said the recall, coming in the wake of Toyota’s massive 8 million vehicle action, covers cars linked to 14 crashes and one injury.

Australia’s central bank hiked its cash rate by 25 basis points, flagging further hikes ahead after a strong economic recovery.

There should be a number or address on the bag. If not then report it to the supermarket, they will have the suppliers details.

Toronto real estate market. Is there a report that shows year-to-year appreciation rates by neighbourhood?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Specifically, I’m trying to find out how houses (not condos) in the Mimico area of Toronto compare to other neighbourhoods in Toronto year-to-year over the past 5 years… A relative owns a 1 story bungalow around Lakeshore and Royal York and he’s concerned that it’s value isn’t increasing at a rate similar to other areas in Toronto. If we can find other areas in Toronto that will provide him a better return on his investment, he will consider moving… thanks~

Yes that information is available, but it would take a bit of work to get it. There are always some areas that appreciate faster than others (and vice versa). Areas closer to downtown and ones near the subway lines have probably increased more. I would guess that bungalows in East York have increased more. If I get time, I’ll check.

Did the CBO report on the govt option plan take in to account free market forces?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

One competitor with lower costs would force others to lower their costs.

Im sure like most government forecasts on spending the true number will be much higher. At least that is how it always seems to work.

Where can I get a report about the state of the real estate market in Detroit and in the whole USA?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Is there anything like that?
A report that shows the price movements and explains the factors for price reduction/increase.

Sort of. While there’s no exact report that comes out regularly on what you need, there are reports which still address your question. I would try zillow.com first, they have an economist and shows the trends and housing values across the U.S. I’m putting two different resources I came across on that site below. Hope this helps.

I’m doing a report on H&M going into Miami market. What do people in Miami emphasize the most about fashion?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Any idea about people’s lifestyles, competitions, advantages of H&M coming to Miami?? Any opinions from people who live in Miami would be helpful.

I don’t really understand your question, but I would say that a lot of young people are very…particular about designer labels. For example, Armani Exchange is a popular brand here in Miami. Young people mainly are often seen wearing attire with with the A/X logo on it. Ditto for Abercrombie. Same with Hollister. Young people seem to be into clothing that displays a designer name or logo.
